Psychological and Neuropsychological Evaluation

Our comprehensive evaluations are conducted in three phases in which we gather information through a diagnostic interview, administer neuropsychological and psychological tests, and provide you with feedback to gain a better understanding of the way in which your brain works and how your behavior and emotions may impact your ability to think. Read the sections below to gain a better understanding of our evaluations.

1

Diagnostic Interview

The diagnostic interview is the first appointment that you will attend for your neuropsychological or psychological evaluation. This appointment will typically last 60 minutes and is meant to learn more about what types of problems you or your family member have been having.  We find it helpful when patients bring those who know them well to this appointment, such as a parent, child, spouse, or partner.

2

Testing Sessions

We conduct testing sessions in three hour blocks. Depending on the reason for referral, you or your loved one may require one, two or three sessions. Neuropsychological testing is noninvasive and  painless. You will be asked to complete a variety of computerized and pencil & paper measures. There may be rare instances in which you may find certain tests to be unpleasant or difficult, however, these feelings are normal. A highly trained psychometrist will administer these tests.

3

Feedback Session

During the feedback session, you will learn the results of your evaluation. We will also tailor personalized recommendations for you or your loved one which will be documented in a report that will be drafted.  Feedback sessions typically require 45-60 minutes. You may find it helpful to bring a loved one to this appointment as well.
