Dr. Sparadeo is a nationally recognized expert in the neuropsychology of addiction and traumatic brain injury (TBI). He is a licensed clinical psychologist in Massachusetts and Rhode Island and has authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters. Dr. Sparadeo served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University School of Medicine for 18 years and previously directed Rehabilitation Psychology at Rhode Island Hospital (1981–1988). He later became the National Director of Substance Abuse and TBI for a healthcare organization (1988–1991) and returned to Rhode Island Hospital in 1992 to establish and lead the Concussion Care Center and co-direct the Interdisciplinary Spine Program. He has held leadership roles, including President of the Brain Injury Association of Rhode Island, Chairman of the Governor’s Permanent Advisory Commission on TBI, and consultant to SAMHSA and the Massachusetts Statewide Head Injury Program.
Currently, Dr. Sparadeo serves as Director of Research at the Calmar Pain Relief Center, where he studies noninvasive Scrambler Therapy for chronic neuropathic pain. He also teaches graduate courses in the Neuroscience of Substance Abuse and Mental Illness and Psychopharmacology for Counselors at Salve Regina University. He is the Director of Clinical Operations at the Center for Community Independence (CCI) in Revere, MA, a program focused on integrating individuals with TBI into the community. Dr. Sparadeo continues to consult with the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission to train clinicians on TBI and Substance Use Disorder. He is a founding member of the Rhode Island Pain Society and has extensive experience with chronic pain patients, dating back to his training at the V.A. Medical Center Pain Clinic in Boston in 1982.
Dr. Sparadeo has published extensively on Scrambler Therapy and contributed to the textbook Chronic Pain in the Rehabilitation Patient. He was recently appointed to the Clinical Advisory Board of Cognivue, Inc., advising on the development of their FDA-approved cognitive assessment device. His expertise spans clinical practice, research, and education, with a focus on innovation in the treatment of TBI, addiction, and chronic pain.
